On your return, drive the coastal road to indulge in amazing views, make a stop at Sfinari beach to sample the best fish cuisine of the island at the seafront tavern called "Sunset".

Elafonissi Beach
Visit the famous beach of Elafonissi (about 1 and a half hour drive from Chania). Do not be turned off by the many cars parked in the parking lot once you arrive. The beach is spectacular and one can always walk to the small islet to find isolation. On your return, drive the coastal road to indulge in amazing views, make a stop at Sfinari beach to sample the best fish cuisine of the island at the seafront tavern called "Sunset".
Explore the Akrotiri peninsula (about half an hour from happy villa), visiting the monastery of Agia Triada (open all day) and then onto Marathi beach (a great small beach which is always calm) for a swim and then eat at 'Patrelandonis' fish tavern.

Visit Knossos palace (the most important Minoan palace excavated in 1900 by Sir Arthur Evans). It is a 2 hours drive each way. This is combined with the magnificent Archaeological museum (which is located 15 minutes drive from the site-at the center of the city). Once arrived find a local guide to show you the palace (so you hear the fascinating story)

Visit Knossos palace (the most important Minoan palace excavated in 1900 by Sir Arthur Evans). It is a 2 hours drive each way. This is combined with the magnificent Archaeological museum (which is located 15 minutes drive from the site-at the center of the city). Once arrived find a local guide to show you the palace (so you hear the fascinating story)
Visit the amazing Balos lagoon see and Gramvousa islet either with the boat cruise (leaving in the morning from Kissamos port) or with a rented car (preferably a jeep as the last 30 minutes is a very bumpy road) or with a private fast boat (an estimate cost of 500 euro for a full day cruise).

Balos Beach
Visit the amazing Balos lagoon see and Gramvousa islet either with the boat cruise (leaving in the morning from Kissamos port) or with a rented car (preferably a jeep as the last 30 minutes is a very bumpy road) or with a private fast boat (an estimate cost of 500 euro for a full day cruise).
Go sailing with a skipper. We have 2 options: Notos sailing company embarks from the old harbour and provides short private sailing tours in the bay of Chania. B-crew Sailing embarks from Kissamos and provide a sailing tour to Balos and Gramvousa. This is a completely weather dependent and the cost depends on the hours and the itinerary (but once can expect to pay an average cost around 300 euro-food and drinks inlcuded)

If you have small children they will enjoy the 1 hours boat trips around the harbour.
Drive through Therisso gorge (about a half an hour from happy villa), make a short stop to visit the second world war museum and then head towards Drakona village to enjoy what might be the best food served in Crete at ‘Dounias’ taverna. You could return to happy villa from the same route or alternatively, to enjoy more mountainous scenery, head back passing through the villages of Zourva and Meskla (the scenery changes dramatically and from steep cliffs you drive through olive and orange groves).

Hike the Aradaina gorge (a 3 hours hike-dangerous at times so only for experienced-or at least brave- hikers). The end of the hike brings you to spectacular Marmara beach.
