Imbros Gorge is the second most popular gorge on Crete after Samaria. It is 8km long. During the high season hundreds of walkers visit daily to make the trek through the valley. The walk is not difficult and can be completed in about 2 hours. The scenery is beautiful and the relative easiness of the hike makes it an ideal walk for families with children. Imbros gorge is open all of the year. At the end you will find a taxi to take you back to the beginning and taverns. 32km away from Asigonia. You go towards the road that is on the south side of Asi Gonia’s main square where the statues, Supermarket, Souvlaki tavern, and Meze tavern are. You can see the zig zag road opposite from the villa. You come to Kallikratis village there is a cross road turning right will lead you to Imbros gorge. The gorge is open all the year for 12 months. The entrance ticket is 2, 50 Euro. Tip So one person can return by taxi to the starting point pick up his car and return to the end to take the other members. Costing 5 Euro per passenger. Another way is one member of your group to leave you at the entrance of the gorge and to pick you all up at the end of the gorge. Another way is to go half way and return back. A useful tip start from the main entrance which is very easy straight and downhill as starting from the end is uphill and more difficult. A very easy gorge to pass recommendable also for children 4 years old. You can find a lot of taverns at the end of the gorge. If you continue by car afterwards you pass the mountain top 989m and go down to sea level to the other side of the island! To Frangokastello beach or Sfakia village which has a port to go to remote beaches only by ferry. In Sfakia village named also Hora Sfakion there is iligas beach which has sea caves. There is an organized beach and beach service for snaks and drinks.

Hike the Samaria gorge (one full day/can always be booked the day before) or the Imbros gorge: this is smaller-a 3 hours hike (if you do the Imbros gorge then as soon as you arrive at the bottom of the gorge you can take a civilian cab and return to where you left your car. Then you could also continue to go and visit Chora Sfakion and from there continue to Sweet water beach, see below, or to Orthi ammos beach, a beautiful beach past Fragkokastelo).
