This beach has world-class windsurfing, but on a calm day it's our favorite place to head to cool off. There's picnic tables and shade right next to the water.
This entire gorge is famous for its wind and water sports, and Doug's Beach is a coveted spot. The winds can be fierce, whipping the river into a white-capped frenzy. Kite boarding and windsurfing success at this site comes with bragging rights and respect; it is rated as expert and is only recommended for those who are properly trained, skilled and equipped. Love the water, but not much of a kite boarder? A small rock beach area offers swimming and paddle sports on non-windy days, and the river often yields small-mouth bass to intrepid anglers.

Great beach for sailboarding, or on a calm day launch your kayak, paddle board or just relax on the beach and enjoy a swim. Note: This is a state park, so "the man" requires a Discovery Parking Pass" which can be purchased at the Lyle Merc $30 and is good for ALL state parks in the Gorge. You can pay by the day, I think it's $5, but if you will around for a while it's worth it to buy the pass.
