When the weather is nice, you can barely see the grass due to the throngs of people lounging around. Luckily, the park was recently renovated and is big enough that you're bound to find a spot you like. The southwest corner is good for a panoramic view of the city skyline (and usually far enough away from the folks enjoying their herbal refreshments on the northern slope). There's also a nice kid's playground, although it's geared more towards older kids.

Huge park and open space near the Mission, great for picnics with wonderful city views.
Bring a picnic and a blanket and stay a while! With expansive views of downtown, this is where San Franciscans come to sun bathe and meet up with friends. Locals call it “Dolores Beach.”
Come day drink at the park with a great downtown view. This is the spot the locals go to chill with friends.

The owner of Anchor Steam brewery brought beer and liquor from his storehouses in Daly City and the citizens and horses partied for three days. Dolores Park still hosts parties each day from Friday to Sunday. It's a true San Francisco landmark.
