Visit the famous vineyards of the Pomerol including the famous Chateau Petrus and St Emilion - also a very interesting medieval hill town, before travelling on to Bordeaux on the banks of the Garonne. The Tourist Information office has guided walking tours round the Old Town of Bordeaux, about one and half hours. Once a possession of England, Bordeaux is steeped in history and is well worth a visit. Take the TGV from Angouleme to Paris or Bordeaux for the day.

Just 45 miles away, 1 hour by car (park in one of the many Park and Rides and take the tram in) or direct by train from Montendre. Voted best tourist city in the world in 2015.
