Drive to the top of Pikes Peak and take in the breath taking majestic view of the Great Plains from high atop Pikes Peak that inspired Katharine Lee Bates to write America the Beautiful. On the pinnacle of that mountain, the words of the poem started to come to her, and she wrote them down upon returning to her hotel room at the original Antlers Hotel. The ultra-prominent 14,115-foot fourteener is located in Pike National Forest, just west of Colorado Springs up hwy 24.

Drive up to the top of Pikes Peak and see if you can find The Fortress! Also look for purple mountain majesties, amber waves of grain, etc. :)

Drive up to the top of a 14,000 foot mountain. Pack your coat as it is always chilly up there. The view is amazing. There is an information center at the top.
