12 p.m.: Take the metro from Circo Massimo and zip under the Colosseum on your way to bustling Mercato Esquilino.
Built in the late nineteenth century, not far from Termini station, it was a place of great passage, after a first arrangement in 1913, the market continued to thrive during Fascism and survived the war and the black bag that was done under the arcades.
The real Roman food market where we usually buy food. You can find everything from fresh vegetables and fruit to fish and meat.

It’s a one stop shop for all tastes and food needs – here you can find everything from sweets, to pizza, to vegan meals, and more, without forgetting about trapizzini, pasta, sushi and fresh seafood. While the first floor is perfect for casual dining, the second floor is used to house special events and culinary experiences.”

“As is evidenced from their slogan, “L’arte del pane” (the art of bread), it is obvious that Panella takes their business seriously. For almost 100 years they have served freshly baked treats on the Esquiline Hill. Panella still operates as a traditional bakery, but they have expanded their menu to offer breakfast service with coffee and pastries; a rotating lunch menu that includes pasta, meat and fish; and wine and cocktails in the evening.”
