Every Thursday, the museum stays open late for NightLife, which is an awesome way to see the place without swarms of kids running around. Sip on cocktails while gazing at jellyfish, an albino alligator, and other creatures in the aquarium. Arrive early to score planetarium tickets, and don’t miss the rainforest housed inside a 90-foot glass dome. Don’t be afraid to wear fancy threads to this. Check the website for that week’s theme, because the museum goes all out with decor and drinks to match.

The world’s only aquarium-planetarium-rainforest-living museum. Come nose-to-beak with penguins and parrots, watch sharks and sting rays cruise beneath your feet, and feel the spray of the California coast. Fly to Mars (and beyond the Milky Way!) from the safety of your planetarium seat, take a…

“The de Young often features traveling exhibits from all over the world. It's in a fantastic modernist building which has a tower that you can go up (free of charge) for a great view of Golden Gate Park and the surrounding city.”

“What to say? One of the great parks of the United States. Just head down the hill to Kezar Stadium (at the very bottom of Willard Street) and you'll see the GGP right beyond it (walk around Kezar to the west to enter the park). You can also enter on Stanyan and Haight (and at many other points). Enjoy the Academy of Sciences, de Young Museum, Japanese Tea Garden, Stow Lake, the Conservatory of Flowers (great night time light shows in the summer and winter) and many, many other features of the park.”

“The sweetest garden in San Francisco is just a 10 minute walk away - quiet waters, quaint bridges and pagodas, and zen pebble gardens wait, with an option to have tea at the small cafe as well.”

“The Conservatory of Flowers is a gigantic greenhouse of exotic plants in Golden Gate Park. It was built in 1878 and survived the 1906 Earthquake. After being damaged by storms in 1996, the Conservatory was taken apart piece by piece and restored using old growth redwood that had fallen or had been left behind by loggers. With a Hall of Flowers inside, stunning green ramparts of flowers and grass outside, and a Dahlia garden that will take your breath away when in season, the Conservatory is a favorite place for San Franciscans to picnic and enjoy the sun.”
